The elusive chocolate alligator

So I have been keeping the roads hot traveling around campaigning the past few weeks and since my idea that syrup could fuel my car didn’t work I’ve been forced to make frequent stops at gas stations across SC. I’ve noticed one consistent and obvious theme: gas is high and seems to be getting higher. My last stop I paid $2.05 a gallon!
Not cool… since my $$$ is going into my tank that means no super size jumbo popcorn at the movies, no splurging on Starbucks hot chocolate, and NO solid chocolate alligator I’ve been wanting to get from the market in downtown!
I’ve decided not to take a backseat to throwing my dough down the tank so I put my fingers in fifth gear and did a little Internet researchin’ to find some sites to help me get a grip on my gas crisis.
I know I’m not the only one feeling the gas gauge crunch so if you want a heads up on where to find the cheapest gas in your part of town check out Gasbuddy. The site lets you post and view recent retail gasoline prices by simply typing in your zip code, state or city.
Another pretty awesome site is Fuelly. It lets you track, share, and compare your gas mileage. By recording and analyzing your mileage, you can see how much money you can save with small driving changes. The site also has an entire section dedicated to gas saving tips; like did you know that on average gas mileage usually decreases quite rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. In fact, you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.24 per gallon for gas! You may think that is a small chunk of change….but chunks of change add up and can eventually equal a chocolate alligator!
